Description

When we talk about faux queens (that is women who do female drag) there are alot of questions, uncertainity and tension. What happens when women do female drag? Why would they want to? Are they allowed to? These questions and more are playfully addressed in Agorafaux-pas.

Agorafaux-pas is a new cabaret-inspired play by Australian drag artist and queer arts researcher Jamie Coull.

The show is a collaborative project between Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia, where Jamie is a PhD candidate in The School of Media, Culture & Creative Arts, and UMD's Department of Women's Studies where Jamie is currently based a visiting scholar.

The work playfully narrates the mostly true story of Agorafauxbia - a straight identified faux queen whose identity is altered as she becomes involved in drag queen culture. The narrative of Agorafauxbia draws upon personal stories and experiences of the playwright, as well as ethnographic data collected from in-depth interview with other faux queens.
